We were looking for some easy camping meals… easy to prepare and cook as we travel around Oz. So we bought a selection of camp food dinners from Campers Pantry.

This time, we taste-test Spaghetti Bolognese.

Preparation

It is one of Campers Pantry’s short cooking time meals. Add 300ml of water, mix it in and wait just 10 minutes instead of the usual 20.

We cooked up some onions, tomatoes and chillies to add to the mixture.

We cooked onion, tomatoes and a chilli separately in a saucepan. Once the spaghetti Bolognese and veggies were cooked, we mixed them together and tucked in.

The result?

The Taste Test

Well, I should have added a bit more water. The Spaghetti Bolognese was a bit dry… totally my fault. This was easily fixed by adding a little more boiling water into our bowls and mixing it in. Another first world problem solved!

I really enjoyed it.

The mince is obviously premium quality beef and all flavours combined to give a pleasant taste. The spaghetti itself was great, not soggy at all.

Our only comment is it could do with more Bolognese sauce for just a bit more flavour, although it’s probably easier said than done with freeze-dried food.

The finished product, ready to eat!

Peta was a little less enamoured. To be fair, she’s not a big red meat eater anymore so I’m not really surprised. She thought it was a little tasteless, lacking in flavour.

So this time we couldn’t agree on a score. I gave it a 4.0 while Peta settled on 3.5 and wouldn’t budge!

Lessons Learnt

So what did we learn from this?

By cooking and adding the onion, tomatoes and chilli, this easily fed both of us. It also added more flavour and blended in well with the flavours already in the Spaghetti Bolognese.

Would We Eat It Again?

Definitely. It really was a surprise. We were sceptical whether a freeze-dried Spaghetti Bolognese would actually have any taste. Well it does, lots of taste.

So you can add this one to your list of easy camping meals to take on your next camping adventure!

Next time we try Balti Vegetable Curry.
